Celebration of the Franciscan Centenary, 2023-2026
As Daughters of St. Francis of Assisi, we joined together to celebrate the memories of our Holy Father, St. Francis, along with our brothers and sisters around the world. According to The Franciscan Family Committee, we will begin the celebration of the Franciscan Centenary, which will run from 2023, with the commemoration of the approval of the Later Rule and the Christmas of Greccio, through 2024 (Stigmata), 2025 (canticle of the Brother Sun) and culminate in 2026, with the centenary of his “transitus” from earth to heaven.
This year, 2023, we shall commemorate the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’ first rule and Greccio’s first Nativity scene. Links to some of the resources you can use to plan how you will take part in these celebrations are accessible on the website below. The year 2023’s theme is “You are Joy.”
As a community, we look forward to reliving and walking in the footsteps of our Seraphic Holy Father, St. Francis, during these three consecutive years. This will be a time of renewal, reflection, and an opportunity to rediscover the joy of living out our Charism and consecrated religious life in the spirit of “St. Francis.”
